Quality bedding, room clean, taxi service provided by hosts.
Nowhere to put the throw and cushions that dressed the bed other than on the floor ,could have done with an ottoman to keep them off the floor. Would have preferred the breakfast grilled instead of cooked in olive oil, too greasy for us.
Handywater Cottage reply:
Dear Guests,
We really value all the reviews we receive and the praise we receive is what makes us try even harder to continually strive for perfection. We take on board everything that is written by our lovely guests and have never in four years felt the need to answer a review as they are all self explanatory and usually lavish in their praise for our efforts at Handywater. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we would fiercely defend that. However, having received this review which gave us the lowest score we’ve ever had, we felt we must reply to it. We received only 7.5 out of ten for the staff. Yet we looked after you as well as we always do and even took you to restaurants in our own car and returned to collect you late in the evening, all at no charge. We also received only 7.5 out of ten for the location, yet our web site and all booking agents are more than clear with maps and photographs of the views and the peace and quiet that we offer. If staying in a beautiful setting 1 mile from the town center is not to your liking, why didn’t you book somewhere in the noisy High Street? Your room was only scored as 7.5 out of ten for comfort, yet the beds are the most expensive one can buy, the bedding is new and exquisite, the rooms are decorated with Natalie’s paintings and new furniture, the walls have sound proofing as well as thermal insulation, the double glazing and patio and front door were custom made in Hungary for us where the best quality is to be found. The shower in the en-suite could take 4 persons and there are gallons of hot water available 24 hours a day, every day. The patio furniture consisting of chairs, loungers and 3 meter parasol are all new. The dedicated and constant internet connection to your room is at 80mps which is fibre optic speed and your TV has Netflix and Amazon Prime in addition to 260 other channels. How one could complain to that lowly extent and complain about the price is a mystery to us. You awarded us only 7.5 out of ten for value for money. But we charge for what we also give away. We give every guest our dedicated care and love and in your instance, the cost of taxi journeys would have cost you £40 had we not have taken you, yet we gave that free of any charge and always have done. Try to imagine what our council rates alone are in this most expensive part of the UK. Cleanliness you awarded us the full marks of ten. How could you not? You also complained that the expensive and myriad of designer cushions on your bed were too much and you had no where to put them. We know that they are storable on the top of your room’s wardrobe and the throw can be folded and placed on the low shelf in that wardrobe. Every guest we’ve had has done that and we find it illogical and puerile to complain otherwise. Lastly, you complained about your breakfast. This whole repast is sourced locally within our valley and nothing but the baked beans comes out of a tin. All your breakfast options are discussed in some detail with every guest at the time of check-in. When you chose your menu, you asked for a full English for both of you. The sausages, tomatoes and bacon are grilled. Eggs and mushrooms are fried in virgin olive oil. You should have requested a poached egg and not requested a fried egg. Your review depressed and disappointed us greatly. We accept that it’s impossible to please all of the people all of the time, but we honestly do try to do that.
